D License Fleet Operative – Cork City Centre
My client is hiring a D License Fleet Operative to join their busy maintenance team in Cork. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a hands-on attitude, strong attention to detail, and a passion for working with a large, modern fleet in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
📍 Location: Cork City Centre
🕐 Working Hours: 39-hour week (shift patterns vary by location)
💶 Salary: Starting at €33,078.36, rising to €39,252.81 after 6 years
💰 Additional Pay:
- 20% shift allowance for unsociable hours (night shifts and weekend work)
- Overtime available after 39 hours
- Saturday: x1.5 of hourly salary
- Sunday: x2 of hourly salary
📄 Contract: Full-time, permanent
About the Role
As a Fleet Operative, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the fleet running smoothly – ensuring all vehicles are clean, fuelled, and ready for service. Working alongside skilled mechanics, you’ll support the maintenance team with a variety of operational and workshop tasks that help maintain the company’s high standards for safety, reliability, and presentation.
Working Hours & Shift Patterns
We offer a flexible and varied working schedule designed to meet operational needs while supporting work-life balance.
- Most Fleet Operatives work Monday to Friday, 8:00-16:00
- Some locations operate night shifts and weekend rotations (eligible for the 20% shift allowance)
- One site follows a 4 days on / 3 days off roster with 10-hour shifts
- Overall, it’s a 39-hour working week, though shift patterns vary depending on location and current requirements
- Overtime may be available beyond 39 hours, paid at 1.5x on Saturdays and 2x on Sundays

What You’ll Do
- Refuel and check oil, water, and fluid levels on all vehicle types
- Wash, clean, and present vehicles to company standards
- Carry out shunting and vehicle movements as required
- Perform light maintenance tasks under the supervision of a Foreman or Team Leader
- Keep the garage, forecourt, and surrounding areas clean and organised
- Support general workshop operations and assist team members when needed
- Always follow health, safety, and environmental standards
What We’re Looking For
✅ Essential:
- Previous experience in a vehicle, fleet, or depot maintenance environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
- Good teamwork, communication, and reliability
- Willingness to learn and support various workshop activities
✅ Desirable (Not Essential):
- Category D (Bus) Licence – an advantage but not required
- Willingness to obtain a D licence after joining (the company provides full driver training and test support; candidates must secure their own provisional D licence)
- No CPC or tachograph card required (as this role does not involve carrying passengers)
- Basic mechanical or technical knowledge
- Experience in transport, logistics, or workshop operations
